Summer Blues

Lord have mercy, summer is tough when your child has autism!! The first week out of school, Nova really had a hard time. Less structure, mommy (a teacher) is exhausted, trying to find our way. Then week two, mini-vaca with grandma and mommy, which again, means different routine. Hotel rooms. Restaurants. Excitement over new experiences. All things Nova needs. All things a melt down waiting to happen.

Overall, she did great. Overall, my patience held out. (with a few hits of nicoutine outside the hotel---something I'm not proud of). Sure helped having grandma there! Crayons and work books, fave toys all made it okay.

So let's talk about it....what things help you when routines are broken???

Trying to Stay Positive

It's so hard sometimes!!! I want to be a positive force in others' lives. I want this for my family, my students, my friends. But sometimes...ahhh...it's so hard. Then I read about a young woman like this...and it really puts things into perspective. Please read and send her a message!!

Holiday spirit???

Okay, really, I think I'm a pretty generous person. I really DO like doing things for other people. But then something will happen to you and you wonder why bother??? The night before Christmas eve, someone broke into our van and stole all of my daughter's Christmas presents. SERIOUSLY???? They were wrapped in Dora paper, for crying out loud, it's not like they couldn't tell they were for a little girl!!

My faith in humanity has been tested on this one. Don't get me wrong, I know it was just one or two people, I know it's not everyone. But the fact that it CAN happen...wow...amazes me. I must be naive.

This book changed my life

One of my dearest friends gave me this book for Christmas and I instantly fell in love with it. The Shack by William P. Young is the story of a man who had to deal with the worst possible heartache. No family should have to go through it. But he spent a weekend with God and found a way to forgive. Forgiveness is the main theme, but there are so many more. It will truly make you rethink some of the things you believe.

Wednesday's Book Recommendation

Sorry I've been gone so long, folks. We've all been pukey sick! First hubby had the flu, then myself and Nova at the same time. Great way to spend the holidays!

This week's book recommendation is She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. It's an oldie but goody! I first read it in college when it came out and fell in love with Deloris, the main character. Any woman can relate to SOMETHING she goes through. Several times, I found myself looking at the author's picture to make sure it was really written by a man!

The Sicklies

I've been gone for ages...did anyone miss me? Ha! We've all been sick...first Nova, then Kurt, then me. It's been a blast, let me tell you. I'll have lots to share, though, as Nova has a holiday program at preschool coming up and her Xmas pics will be in soon. Hope everyone is well!
